Rome & the Zombie Apocalypse

Objective: HHG Tributes of 2019 will be able to describe the geographical strengths of the location of Rome and how they can relate they strengths to their own survival in the apocalypse.

Standards: 6.7.3 Identify the location of and the political and geographic reasons for the growth of Roman territories and expansion of the empire, including how the empire fostered economic growth through the use of currency and trade routes

Step 1: Go over Geography Challenge homework and discuss how we can learn from the Romans how we can set ourselves up to be protected, have access to resources, and the power to control our area.

Step 2: Discussion | Basic expectations.

1. Talk to each other, not just to me.
2. Refer to evidence from maps and the reading to support your ideas.
3. Ask clarifying questions if you do not understand.
4. Don’t interrupt.
5. Don’t put down the ideas of another student. Without judging the student who you may disagree with, state your alternate interpretation or ask a follow-up question to help probe or clarify an idea.

Homework: On your own piece of paper answer the following question in no less than 5 sentences. What geographic lessons (at least 3) can we learn from the Romans to save us in the event that zombies walk the earth and we must reestablish civilization as we know it??

Be sure to:
  • Use complete sentences.
  • Edit for spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar.
  • Make sure that you are specific about who he/she or what it/this is... otherwise Ms. Kelly will automatically think Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and be confused. Clearly, we are talking about Romans and Zombies... so TMNT should not come into play, right??
  • Use evidence from the reading, the maps of Rome, class discussion or your homework to back up your ideas.
  • Use examples of how you would use this knowledge to save you and/or your friends and family from becoming "Walker Bait."
