Rome, Jesus... & Some emailing

Standard 7.1.3 Describe the establishment by Constantine of the new capital in Constantinople and the development of the Byzantine Empire, with an emphasis on the consequences of the development of two distinct European civilizations, Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic, and their two distinct views on church-state relations.

SS Objective: The HHG Tributes of 2019 will be able to discuss the rise of Christianity and the establishment of a new capital in Constantinople.

Key Points:
1. The Roman Empire existed before and after Christianity.
Constantine moved the capital to the East (modern day Turkey).
2. The Romans 
The Empire divided into two religious civilizations: Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic.
2. Christians were persecuted until Constantine issued a decree that allowed Christians to practice freely.
3. The Christian Religion is one of the most important legacies of the Roman Empire.

Step 1 | Do Now: Get out your HW log and Email Judging Activity from Yesterday. Then, complete Quick Rome Review.

Step 2 | Follow along as we go over the Email Judging Activity from yesterday. 

Step 3: Discussion Questions: 

• If you cannot communicate quickly and effectively, what problems might that cause in your life?
• What if you were the ruler of an entire empire?
• Would it be easier or harder to communicate if you divided your empire in two?
• Could religion help or hinder your leadership?

Step 5: Follow along with Ms. Kelly as she shows you the different parts of your Gmail account. 

Step 6: Add all your teachers to your contacts. Follow along as Ms. Kelly demonstrates how.
