The Fall of Rome (Part 2): Cause and Effect

Standard 7.1.1: Study ... [the] ultimate internal weaknesses (e.g., rise of autonomous military powers within the empire, undermining of citizenship by the growth of corruption and slavery, lack of education, and distribution of news).

Standard 7.1.2: Discuss the geographic borders of the empire at its height and the factors that threat­ened its territorial cohesion.

Key Points:
1. The Roman Empire lasted for hundreds of years.
2. The Roman Empire started as a Republic in Rome and grew into a large empire.
3. The Roman Empire collapsed for more than one reason.

SS Objective: The HHG Tributes of 2018 will be able to discuss the factors that weakened the Roman Empire and ultimately lead to its fall.

Task 1: Do Now: What makes an government strong? What makes a government weak? Can religion play a role? Why/Why not?
